Filmmaker Stacey Muhammad has announced that award-winning actor and director Charles S. Dutton (Rudy, Alien 3, Roc) has joined the second season cast of her series For Colored Boys. Actor Adesola Osakalumi (Broadway’s FELA!) will join the cast for season two as well.

Inspired by Ntozake Shange’s famed 1975 choreopoem For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, For Colored Boys is “a collection of stories that follow the lives of African American men from various walks of life as they seek to overcome challenges, face their fears, find their truth, find love, mend broken relationships, and build families.”

We’ve followed the series since it premiered online in January 2013 and went on to pick up executive producers Dr. Marc Lamont Hill and Isaiah Washington. Lisa Smith and Michael Pinckney also produce.

Of the series, Dutton said, “What a gem of a director has been found in the discovery of Stacey Muhammad. Her series For Colored Boys is a marvel of cinematic craft and superb storytelling. The series reminds you of the high quality HBO shows The Corner and The Wire.”

More details about the new season and the specific roles that Dutton and Osakalumi will play are expected in the coming weeks.
