Charles StoneCharles Stone III has signed up to direct a dance comedy titled “Ain’t No Half Steppin’” for Broad Green Pictures, which will be produced by Matt Alvarez (“Straight Outta Compton”), Lena Waithe ("Dear White People" and who is developing her own series for Showtime) and Benjamin Cory Jones ("Hand of God").

Scripted by Chuck Hayward, the story centers on an ambitious black sorority girl who agrees to teach the art of black Greek stepping to a white sorority whose charter is about to be revoked. She does this so that she can get admitted to the law school of her dreams.

“Much like he did with ‘Drumline,’ Charles does an incredible job of bringing subcultures into the mainstream and we are excited to see him do the same thing with ‘Ain’t No Half Steppin,’” said Alvarez.

Stone added, “I just skimmed the surface of black Greek life in ‘Drumline.’ ‘Ain’t No Half Steppin’ gives me a chance to delve deep into the art of competitive stepping.”

Josh Reinhold will shepherd the project on behalf of Matt Alvarez’ production company, while Lauren McCarthy will do the same on behalf of Broad Green Pictures.

Director Stone’s been busy lately, with recent credits including the Viola Davis/Jennifer Lopez vigilante thriller “Lila and Eve,” and VH1’s “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.”
