Charles Stone III directs the sorority/stepping dramedy “Step Sisters,” for Broad Green Pictures, which is produced by Matt Alvarez (“Straight Outta Compton”), Lena Waithe (“Dear White People” and who is developing her own series for Showtime) and Benjamin Cory Jones (“Hand of God”).

Broad Green Pictures announced today that “Step Sisters” will be released on March 31, 2017.

Scripted by Chuck Hayward, the story centers on an ambitious black sorority girl who agrees to teach the art of black Greek stepping to a white sorority whose charter is about to be revoked. She does this so that she can get admitted to the law school of her dreams.

Megalyn Echikunwoke stars in the film, and is joined by Naturi Naughton, Eden Sher, Lyndon Smith, Gage Golightly, Nia Jervier, Alessandra Torresani, Marque Richardson  and Matt McGorry.

“Much like he did with ‘Drumline,’ Charles does an incredible job of bringing subcultures into the mainstream and we are excited to see him do the same thing with [‘Step Sisters’],” said Alvarez in a previous press statement.

Stone added, “I just skimmed the surface of black Greek life in ‘Drumline.’ [‘Step Sisters’] gives me a chance to delve deep into the art of competitive stepping.”

Josh Reinhold is shepherding the project on behalf of Matt Alvarez’ production company, while Lauren McCarthy is doing the same on behalf of Broad Green Pictures.

No trailer or other media at this time, but with a March release date now set, we should get a first-look very soon.
