Madeleine Mantock announced her decision to leave the CW series after the series’ third season in a shock to Charmed fans.

In her official statement given to TVLine, Mantock said that she is “grateful” for the chance to play her character, Macy Vaughn.

“Playing Macy on Charmed for the last three seasons has been an immense privilege and I have enjoyed working with our fantastic producers, creatives, cast and crew,” she said. “I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support in my difficult decision to leave. Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season.”

Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, the showrunners for Charmed, told TVLine that as much as they are sad to see Mantock go, they respect her decision to leave.

“We can’t thank Madeleine enough for her incredible and inspiring work on Charmed,” they said. “We will miss her as much as the fans will, but we also respect her decision to move on. This is a difficult time in the world, and everyone has to follow their heart. We wish her well, and the door is always open for a return visit from Macy…one way or another!”

Mantock’s decision is the latest bump in the roller coaster Charmed has been on since its premiere. Not only have hardcore fans of the original Charmed series hijacked Twitter’s discussion about the reboot, but some of the main trio of actresses from the original have also taken shots against the reboot–shots that seem to fall on racial lines. However, despite the online feuding between old and new fans, the series has been able to sustain itself for three seasons and was renewed for its fourth.

The fourth season of Charmed, starring Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery, is expected to premiere on The CW in 2022.
