Shadow and Act is pleased to present photos from the Blackhouse Foundation’s portraits for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

Shadow and Act last debuted Blackhouse photos, from photographer Erik Umphery, in 2022 for the virtual fest and in 2020 for the previous in-person event. Umphery was once again the photographer this year.

The Blackhouse Foundation is one of the organizations providing a safe space and haven for Black talent, filmmakers, press and moviegoers during their Sundance experience. It’s a time and place to grab breakfast, hang out, network, turn up and much more.

According to the organization, “The Blackhouse Foundation stands out as a bastion for the most influential and impactful Black writers, directors, producers, crew, actors and actresses throughout film, television, digital media and beyond. It continues to elevate such talent into the spotlight on a global scale via engagements at Sundance.”

Back in person for 2022, events included an opening reception hosted by founding sponsor Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a panel featuring Black showrunners from NBCUniversal that was moderated by Sharronda Williams of Pay or Wait, a panel from Proctor & Gamble and Queen Collective — and more.

The biggest stars participated in the virtual studio and had images captured. Check out a collection of some of the photos below:
