Congratulations residents of the Windy City! You'll get to see the highly-anticipated work from the Wachowskis and Tom TykwerCloud Atlas – a full week before it officially opens in theaters.

The film will screeen at the 48th Chicago International Film Festival as its Centerpiece Film, on October 17th, at 7PM, at the AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois St.). And the Wachowskis (Chicago natives) along with Tykwer, will be present for the film's Chicago Premiere.

The 48th Chicago International Film Festival will take place October 11-25, 2012. The full schedule will be announced on September 20.

The 48th Chicago International Film Festival welcomes the long-awaited return of Lana and Andy Wachowski to the big screen and their hometown

CHICAGO, IL (September 11, 2012) – The 48th Chicago International Film Festival announces the selection of “Cloud Atlas,” the much anticipated new film from writer/directors and native Chicagoans Lana and Andy Wachowski (“The Matrix” Trilogy) and Tom Tykwer (“Run Lola Run”), as the Festival’s Centerpiece Film. “Cloud Atlas” will screen on October 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois St.). The Wachowskis return to their hometown along with Tykwer to walk the red carpet at the Chicago Premiere.

Based on David Mitchell’s celebrated, best-selling novel, the powerful epic drama “Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

Academy Award® winners Tom Hanks (“Philadelphia,” “Forrest Gump”) and Halle Berry (“Monster’s Ball”) lead a stellar international cast that includes Oscar® winner Jim Broadbent (“Iris”), Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David and David Gyasi, with Oscar® winner Susan Sarandon (“Dead Man Walking”) and Hugh Grant. Each member of the ensemble appears in multiple roles as the story moves through time.

Opening nationwide on Friday, October 26th the film is written for the screen and directed by Lana Wachowski & Tom Tykwer & Andy Wachowski. The Wachowskis previously teamed as writers/directors of the groundbreaking “Matrix” trilogy, which earned more than $1.6 billion, combined, at the worldwide box office. Tom Tykwer won an Independent Spirit Award and earned a BAFTA Award nomination as the director/writer of “Run Lola Run,” and more recently directed the award-winning thriller “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.”
