Fox’s Star has signed on The New Edition Story director Chris Robinson to be a director and co-executive producer.

Variety broke the news.

Prior to the announcement, Robinson directed episode two of the show’s second season, and also directed this week’s “Ghetto Symphony.”

Robinson, an accomplished music video director for artists such as Jay-Z, Beyonce and Alicia Keys, directed all 3 part of the critically-acclaimed BET NE miniseries and also the film ATL. 

He also directed the pilot for Diarra Kilpatrick’s The Climb on Amazon.

Featuring a soundtrack of original music and music performances, Lee Daniels’ Star follows three talented singers (played by Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O’Grady), desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success. The show also stars Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Amiyah Scott, Miss Lawrence and Quincy Brown.

Star has seen a ratings rise, as well as a rise in critical reception for its second season, which added Luke James as a series regular and recurring players including Elijah Kelley, Lance Gross, Keke Palmer and Evan Ross.
