Chris Rock is currently in negotiations to direct Kevin Hart in the upcoming Universal Pictures film Co-Parenting. The film will also be another one produced by Will Packer, who produced Almost Christmas, Night School and Girls Trip.

According to Deadline, Yamara Taylor, who has written for Black-ish, will write the script, which focuses on a stay-at-home dad who raises his children while his wife, a CEO, makes money. However, when his wife wants a divorce, he “finds himself in emotional and public turmoil” as a hard divorce and custody battle looms.

Along with Packer, James Lopez will also produce through Will Parker Productions. Rock will produce through Chris Rock Enterprises, and Hart and John Cheng via Hartbeat Productions will also produce.

Hopefully, this film will give Hart a chance to flex more of his dramatic acting muscle. In About Last Night Hart provided a much more substantial performance, combining humor with heartfelt moments. With Hart’s homemaking character facing a divorce, it should provide an opportunity for us to see a different side to Hart other than the standard slapstick.
