Live with Kelly and Ryan aired their interview with Cicely Tyson, completed one day before her death Thursday. This is the final interview Tyson gave to the public.

During a special message recorded for Friday’s episode, Ripa talked at length about Tyson’s life.

“To say Cicely Tyson was an American legend would be too great an understatement,” she said, according to TVLine. “We were honored to speak with her…and devastated to learn of her passing. She was a trailblazer who broke barriers for Black actresses and women everywhere. Cicely was a portrait of courage, dignity and grace. We feel very fortunate to share with you her last interview.”

The interview, which aired Friday, showed Tyson talking about her life, including how a stranger predicted her meteoric rise to stardom.

“My mother was pushing me in a baby carriage and this woman stopped her and started playing with me and turned to my mother and said, ‘Take care of this child. She has a sixth sense. She’s going to make you very proud one day.'”

Tyson also revealed how her hope to uplift her Black community drove her throughout her career.

“I have been an actress my whole career who’s never been paid any money because I never really worked for money,” she said. “I’ve worked because there are certain issues that I wish were addressed about myself and my race as a Black woman.”
