'Clueless' Series Reboot Focused On Dionne Lands At Peacock, Switches From Drama To Comedy

The Clueless series reboot has landed at Peacock!

When the series was first announced to be in development last October, it did not have a network officially attached, though The CW and other streaming services were said to be in the running. The genre of the series was said to be a mystery drama take the first time, but now seems to be a mystery-comedy take instead. Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey are the writers.

Variety reports: The untitled comedy series is described a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?

CBS TV Studios retains the rights to the 1995 film, which spawned a comedy series in 1996. The series ran on ABC and UPN for a combined three seasons.

The original 1995 film, loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma, chronicled life at a Beverly Hills high school with a satirical lens.

There is also a Clueless feature project in development at Paramount with Girls Trip writer Tracy Y. Oliver writing the script. No update on that project has come since 2018.
