Coco Jones is winning big this award season. The 25-year-old took home the distinction for best new artist during last night’s 2023 Soul Train Awards ceremony. She also took the stage for a special rendition of her single, “Double Back.”

Jones stepped out in an all-white gown and coat, her mic in hand. She performed the ballad on a red-lit stage before moving to the second part of her performance. SWV sang their classic 1997 single, “Rain.” Jones joined Coko, Lelee and Taj as they sang the chorus.

“Double Back,” featured on Jones’ debut EP, What I Didn’t Tell You (Deluxe), samples SWV’s song.

“I wanted to honor Black women from my upbringing who I looked up to on screen and in music,” she previously told VIBE about choosing to reference the track.

“I wanted to show different sides of myself and what I offer the world sonically,” she said about the follow-up single to Grammy-nominated track “ICU.” “So ‘Double Back’ was a great follow-up record to demonstrate my versatility.”

Jones was recently nominated for five Grammy Awards, including best new artist, best R&B album, best R&B performance, best R&B song and best traditional R&B performance. She recently collaborated with artists such as Reneé Rapp, Justin Timberlake and Brent Faiyaz.
