Tony-nominated actress Condola Rashad is gearing up for a new role!

Rashad, daughter of Phylicia Rashad, will portray the lead character of Saint Joan in the classic play of the same name on Broadway. The play itself was last seen on Brodaway in 1993.

Its description, according to Playbill: “Set in 15th century France, Saint Joan recounts the story of Joan of Arc, a peasant girl who claimed to hear the voices of saints directing her to help the Dauphin of France drive the English out of the country. While she was successful in battle, she was ultimately betrayed and tried for heresy.”

According to our research, she’s only the second black actress to play Saint Joan on Broadway, the last being Diana Sands in a 1968 Broadway revival.

The show will start previews on April 3, 2018 before it opens on April 25, 2018.

She currently stars in the Showtime crime drama, Billions, and will star with Danny Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lakeith Stanfield in the 2018 film, Come Sunday.

Her other notable theatre credits include Tony-nominated performances in Stick Fly, The Trip to Bountiful and A Doll’s House, Part II.
