According to EW, who first reported the news, here is a description of Stewart's character, Flint: "Flint is a young man who’s been forced to grow up fast in a tough environment, but hasn’t lost his desire to make something of himself. When he crosses paths with our S.H.I.E.L.D. team, he just may get the chance to prove that he’s capable of big things. Fun fact: Flint is based on a character from Inhumans comics."

In the comics, Flint, whose real name is Jason, is an Inhuman who has the ability to control rocks and stone. Part of his face is made of rocks. Adopted by a white family, he was raised in a town made up of Inhumans with very little Inhuman DNA. He was the only one to survive the Terrigen Cloud. He was later revealed to the long-lost son of Irellis of Utolan's Maternal Council of Elders.

S.H.I.E.L.D. returns next year.
