The Creed spinoff film Drago is reportedly in the works at MGM.

Robert Lawton is the film’s screenwriter.

TheWrap broke the news for the development, noting that evidenced by the title, it would focus on Russian fighter Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), who initially played the villain in the 1985 film Rocky IV, and his son Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), who most recently played the villain in Creed II opposite Michael B. Jordan.

Plot specifics are being kept under wraps.

A 2021 Nicholl Fellowship was awarded to Lawton's spec script 'Becoming Rocky,' which was about the production of the first Rocky movie.

The spec script and the Drago pitch that Lawton came up with reportedly impressed MGM executives.

Lundgren was quoted last year on the possibility of a spin-off, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “By the way, I think there’s some talk about doing a whole spinoff on Drago with MGM. So you may get more of that.”

Sylvester Stallone will not be returning to the franchise or spinoff movies after having a reported beef with Creed producer Irwin Winkler and his son David Winkler.

Creed III will be out this November.

Michael B. Jordan, who also plays the lead role of Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, will direct the blockbuster.

Jonathan Majors is set to star alongside Jordan in the film.
