Harriet star Cynthia Erivo showed solidarity with Black journalists on the Oscars red carpet when she stopped to speak to veteran journalist Lola Ogunnaike.

Ogunnaike posted the video of Erivo coming to speak with her on Instagram with the caption, “@cynthiaerivo looking like an absolute vision in custom atelier @versace. Also, love that she stopped for lil ole me.”

Several people online referenced the moment as another instance of when Black journalists, including established journalists like Ogunnaike, get looked over by Black talent’s PR agents. The moment was also used as a way to showcase how Black talent can demand their agents stop for Black journalists and why it’s important to hire Black agents who recognize the power of the Black media.

This moment falls in line with the moment Halle Berry made time for Black journalists on the John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum red carpet in 2019, showing solidarity to Black media who are often overlooked. “I can’t skip my brother and sister,” Berry said of the interaction.
