Cynthia Erivo has signed on to star in an untitled Rip Van Winkle musical film from Josh Gad.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is considered a “hot untitled package” in Hollywood, and Warner Bros. just closed the deal for it. Although it’s an old story, there’s no telling where a film like this could go since Fox was able to bring Ichabod Crane back to relevance thanks to the oft-remembered (and ill-treated) fantasy procedural series Sleepy Hollow. (Ironically, both characters were created by the same author, Washington Irving).

In any event, the Rip Van Winkle musical is being written by Amanda Idoko based on an idea by Gad. Elissa Samsel and Kate Anderson will write the songs. Erivo will executive produce with Rideback exec Ryan Halprin. Gad will produce with Rideback’s CEO Dan Lin and fellow executive Jonathan Eirich.

Idoko is also writing a Plastic Man DC Comics film at Warner Bros.
