David Makes Man, the critically-acclaimed OWN drama from Tarell Alvin McCraney is gearing up for season 2 with this latest bit of casting information.

Shadow and Act has learned that Kwame Patterson and Arlen Escarpeta have been cast as adult versions of the titular David and his younger brother, JG. They join the confirmed series regulars that are returning for season 2: Akili McDowell (young David), Alana Arenas (Gloria), Travis Coles (Mx. Elijah) and Cayden K. Williams (young JG). No other series regulars other than these six have been confirmed by the network at this time. It is our understanding that David’s teen years will still be highlighted on the show.

Per OWN: The first season of “David Makes Man” centered on David Young (Akili McDowell), a 14-year-old prodigy learning to survive the streets that raised him and the higher education that could offer him a way out. Season two finds David in his early 30s (played by Patterson), a rising business man facing an opportunity that will change him and his community forever; the mounting pressure forces David to choose between the instincts that helped him survive or finding a new way to finally, truly live.

McCraney executive produces David Makes Man the series alongside Dee Harris-Lawrence, who serves as showrunner. Mike Kelley and Melissa Loy, Michael B. Jordan via his Outlier Society Productions and Oprah Winfrey via Harpo Films are also executive producers.
