Dear White People star DeRon Horton tried to pull a Kanye West at the GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, but it went south.

Horton attempted the impression during Vida creator Tanya Saracho's acceptance speech for the outstanding comedy award. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Horton said "I'mma let you finish" before he ran back into the audience. Apparently, he wanted to be the Yeezy to Saracho’s Taylor Swift since Dear White People was nominated for the same award.

Sadly, instead of laughter, Horton’s stunt was reportedly met with awkward silence.

Horton, Dear White People creator Justin Simien and the show’s cast released a statement apologizing for the incident.

“I thought I would create a 'funny' callback stage moment that we all remember,” it read. “As soon as I stepped offstage, I regretted it instantly and realized it was inappropriate. My apologies to Vida and to the GLAAD Awards for the distraction it created. It was an honor to be there to celebrate and represent Dear White People’s GLAAD nomination.”

Thankfully, Beyoncé herself didn’t show up until an hour later.

Dear White People was renewed for a third season in July 2018, according to Entertainment Weekly. Simien said the show would go forward in time and tackle new topics.

“I’m really curious to see what happens in the spring, to see what happens with a little bit of distance from these characters and sort of allow them to absorb what just happened to them,” he said. “There’s just a whole host of topics that are still on the table from seasons 1 and 2, even stuff that didn’t make the movie I’m dying to dive into.”

An official release date has not been announced.
