Producer Debra Martin Chase has signed a first look deal with Universal Television.

Under this deal, her Martin Chase Productions will develop new projects for network, cable and streaming.

This news just comes after a Get Christie Love remake, which she executive produces with Power creator Courtney Kemp and Vin Diesel, landed a pilot commitment with ABC. That project falls under this deal.

“After 20 years of fan-girling over the work of Debra Martin Chase, nothing gives me greater satisfaction than to woo her to Universal Television. She is a consummate producer who brings a wealth of experience and talent to her work. We feel very lucky,” said Universal TV president Pearlena Igbokwe.

“I have known and admired Pearlena Igbokwe for many years. I am thrilled to be working with her and her wonderfully talented team and to be a part of the exciting success that Universal Television is enjoying,” said Chase.

Chase’s other ongoing projects include the scripted dramedy White People Problems, at Bravo with Universal (was set prior to the deal) and The Black Calhouns project at ABC.

In 2016, it was announced that she and Charles D. King’s MACRO and others were working on a Harriet Tubman film.

Her extensive past credits include Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, The Princess Diaries movies, The Cheetah Girls movies, Sparkle and BET’s Zoe Ever After.

She previously had a deal at ABC which was announced in 2012.
