Shadow And Act has learned that director/producer DeMane Davis has signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group. She is also joining the creative team of the CW’s and DC series Naomi, hailing from Ava DuVernay and her company, ARRAY Filmworks.

Under the exclusive, multiyear deal, Davis will serve as Naomi co-executive and producing director. She will direct several episodes of the series as well as spearhead the show’s direction team. Davis will also lend her directorial skill to other projects at Warner Bros. Television Group as well as develop new original programming for HBO Max, other streaming services, broadcast and cable.

The deal is Davis’ first with Warner Bros. Television Group and a continuation of her relationship with DuVernay, who gave Davis her directing debut on OWN’s Queen Sugar. DuVernay later promoted Davis to producing director of Queen Sugar in its third season and has continued to direct several episodes and supervise its all-female directing team.

Davis has also directed episodes of Warner Bros. Television Group-produced shows such as The Red Line (also from ARRAY), You, and Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam CJ Walker. Other directing credits include Station 19, How To Get Away with Murder, For the People, and Clarice, on which she was also co-executive producer.

“Growing up, I would scarf down Cap’n Crunch while watching Bugs Bunny every Saturday. I imagined a lot of things, but back then seeing him lean up against the Warner Bros. logo, I don’t think I imagined this,” Davis said in a statement. “I’m forever grateful to Ava for putting me in this rocket ship. Getting to go ‘home’ and work with her and my ARRAY family on Naomi is a gift.”

Naomi is set for a 2022 debut on The CW.
