Denzel Washington is current starring on Broadway in The Iceman Cometh, but for his follow-up role, he could be taking on Shakespeare.

As reported by Broadway.com, Washington and producer Scott Rudin are circling around King Lear as his next big role.

“We put together a list of possible plays: King Lear, Coriolanus, Iceman, a few more,” Washington said. “Then we boiled it down to Iceman and King Lear. And (Rudin) said: ‘Let’s do Lear five years from now.’ I said, ‘OK, we’ll do that next–God willing.'”

King Lear would be a return to the Bard for Washington, who starred in th 2005 Broadway production of Julius Caesar. But as exciting as a prospect of Washington in King Lear might be, nothing official has been set in stone yet. Until Rudin and Washington make their version of King Lear a reality, fans can see Washington’s turn in The Iceman Cometh once it officially opens April 26.
