A trailer for the international release of Katheryn Bigelow’s Detroit has been released.

In a stark contrast to the action-packed trailers that have been released so far, this one is more mellow and seemingly more-character focused than the U.S. trailers. In this trailer, we also see dialogue from Samira Wiley’s character (although she had dialogue in one of the TV spots) and the families of the characters at the center.

After being subject to some criticism for the title of the film and absence of black women in major roles, it seems as if the marketing (purposeful or not) for the film has been adjusted since the very first trailer dropped.

Bigelow is also producing with Boal, as well as Annapurna’s Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson, with Greg Shapiro executive producing.

Detroit tells the gripping story of one of the darkest moments during the civil unrest that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967. The film explores systemic racism in urban Detroit.

The film’s ensemble cast includes John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Jason Mitchell, Hannah Murray, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack Reynor, Ben O’Toole, Joseph David Jones, Ephraim Sykes, Leon Thomas III, Nathan Davis Jr., Peyton Alex Smith, Malcolm David Kelley, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Chris Chalk, Jeremy Strong, Laz Alonzo, Austin Hebert, Miguel Pimentel, Samira Wiley, Kris Davis, with John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie.

The feature, Oscar-winning director Bigelow’s tenth as a director, is financed by Annapurna Pictures. It’s also on the S&A Oscar 2018 predictions list.

Bigelow is a two-time Oscar winner for producing and directing The Hurt Locker. Boal is a two-time Oscar-winner for producing and writing The Hurt Locker. Bigelow, Boal and Ellison’s previous collaboration, Zero Dark Thirty, received five Oscar nominations including best picture and best screenplay.
