According to Variety, earlier this week, the director checked himself into the hospital after experiencing pain in this leg. The trade magazine also says per doctors, the stroke is “mild.”
TMZ first broke the news of Singleton’s hospitalization and said that he had been on a flight back to the U.S. from Costa Rica.
Singleton burst onto the scene in 1991 with his first film, Boyz in the Hood. It earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, making him the youngest director to ever be nominated for the award. He went on to direct Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Shaft and many other films.
He’s currently an exec producer for Snowfall, the FX drama series which he created.
Our thoughts are with Singleton and his loved ones at this time and we wish him a speedy recovery.
