Walt Disney Pictures has enlisted Tarell Alvin McCraney to script their idea for an upcoming musical which will star David Oyelowo.

According to Deadline, who exclusively reported the news, “details are under wraps on what is being titled Cyrano the Moor, but we know it’s some kind of musical mash-up of two classic stories — Cyrano de Bergerac and Othello — and will be set in the Bristol region of England during the 19th century.

So this will be a merger of the two plays — Othello, which “tells the story of a powerful general of the Venetian army, Othello, whose life and marriage are ruined by a conniving, deceitful, and envious soldier, Iago” and Cyrano, which is about a poet who serves as a ghostwriter of sorts for another poet to woo a woman, but the whole scheme is figured out.

The live-action musical is said to be “lavish” in the vein of Disney productions like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.

It will be produced by Yoruba Saxon, David Oyelowo and Jessica Oyelowo.

Disney bought the idea and then tapped McCraney to write it.
