Chinaka Hodge has been tapped as the Head Writer for Disney+’s upcoming Marvel series, Ironheart

Relative newcomer Dominique Thorne, who has appeared in If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas and the Black Messiahwill play the titular character of RiRi Williams / Ironheart. Variety broke the news.

The series follows Williams, a “genius inventor” and “the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.” Hodge is a screenwriter, poet, playwright, and educator. She has written for Apple TV+’s “Amazing Stories and TNT’s She has also published two books of poetry to date, For Girls with Hips: Collected Poems and Writings and Dated Emcees. Hodge is also a founding member, along with Daveed Diggs, of The Getback hip hop collective. She has also written plays such as Mirrors in Every Corner and Chasing Mehserle.

As THR states, Ironheart will be six episodes and Hodge nabbed the job “after pitching her vision for all six to Marvel.”

The series was first announced at Disney’s investor day in December. It joins the current Marvel series at Disney+, including WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as upcoming series like Loki, Hawkeye and Secret Invasion.
