Djimon Hounsou is in talks to join the cast of Guy Ritchie’s "Knights of the Round Table," to play King Arthur’s mentor who’s described as a Merlin-like character who trains Arthur. God forbid he actually plays Arthur; nope, the black man has to be the mentor, the trainer, the guide, the sage, the magical Negro, etc, etc, etc.
It’s actually a role that was originally assigned to Idris Elba, who moved on to other things due to scheduling conflicts.
The Warner Bros./Village Roadshow project stars Charlie Hunnam as Arthur, and Astrid Berges-Frisbey will be Guinevere.
Meanwhile, Jude Law is also in talks to play the main villain.
The studio hopes that the film will be the start of a new money-making franchise, with the story unfolding over 6 installments.
Hounsou can be seen next in Universal’s "The Fast and Furious 7," and also has a supporting role in Warner Bros. "Tarzan." We last saw him in last summer’s "Guardians of the Galaxy."
