The trailer for HBO Max’s upcoming series DMZ, executive produced in part by Ava DuVernay and ARRAY Filmworks, is ready to wow audiences with its vision of a militarized Manhattan. Based on the DC/Vertigo comic, the series drops Mar. 17.

According to the logline, the series “leaps off the pages of the DC acclaimed graphic novel into the visual landscape of a dangerous and distorted Manhattan as one woman navigates a demilitarized zone in a harrowing quest to find her son.” The series stars Rosario Dawson as the main character, “a female medic who saves lives” while on the search for her son, according to our prior reporr about the series. She “contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land [becoming] the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost…hope.”

Benjamin Bratt, Hoon Lee, Reddy Miyares, Jordan Preston Carter and Venus Ariel. Guest stars include Rutina Wesley, Nora Dunn, Jade Wu, Rey Gallegos, Mamie Gummer, Agam Darshi, Juani Feliz and Henry G. Sanders.

The series will be executive produced by Robert Patino, who also wrote the first episode. The first episode will be directed by DuVernay and produced by Warner Bros. Television. The Vertigo comic book is created and written by Brian Wood and illustrated by Riccardo Burchielli. Filmmaker Ernest Dickerson directs and executive produces three episodes and Carly Wray serves as co-executive producer.

This is DuVernay’s second DC show; she is currently executive producing the CW’s Naomi, based on the comic book of the same name.
