Doc 'Take Me To The River' Celebrates Inter-racial Influence of Memphis Music (Opens Today)

nullIt premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival 4 months ago, and was been acquired for US theatrical release by Richard Abramowitz’s distribution company, Abramorama, in a joint venture with Social Capital Films.

From director Martin Shore, the film, titled "Take Me to the River," is a feature documentary that celebrates the inter-generational and inter-racial musical influence of Memphis, amidst pervasive discrimination and segregation.

The film brings multiple generations of award-winning Memphis and Mississippi Delta musicians together, following them through the creative process of recording a historic new album, to re-imagine the utopia of racial, gender and generational collaboration of Memphis in its heyday.

Talking heads featured in the film, contributing commentary, include Terrence Howard, William Bell, Snoop Dog, Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Lil P-Nut, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Yo Gotti, Bobby Rush, Frayser Boy, The North Mississippi All-Stars and many more.

"’Take Me to the River’ is not just a movie, it’s an experience for the soul," said Richard Abramowitz, President of Abramorama. "Bringing together musical talents from various generations creates a bridge of understanding between the young and old about where their musical history is rooted."

Martin Shore, a Grammy nominated music and film producer, who’s toured with the likes of Bo Diddley and others, makes his directorial debut with "Take Me to the River."

The film opens today, September 12, 2014.
