Maya Erskine is now set to star opposite Donald Glover in the upcoming Mr. and Mrs. Smith series for Amazon. Studios.

Previously, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was set to star and executive produce the series alongside Glover but exited the series over creative differences.

Glover himself revealed the casting in an interview in which he interviewed himself (yes, he interviewed himself) for Interview Magazine.

The series is based on the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt movie of the same name that was directed by Doug Liman.

The plot of the film is a married couple who are spies who find out that they are contracted to kill one another.  Glover revealed that he is currently writing the finale for the series. The creative splut between Glover and Waller-Bridge was described as amicable and the series is now solely in Glover’s hands.

Maya Erskine will step into the role Waller-Bridge was pegged to play. Erskine is a co-creator of the Emmy nominated Hulu comedy series PEN15. She will be seen next in the Disney+ Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Glover is credited as the co-creator and executive producer on Mr. and Mrs. Smith alongside Francesca Sloane.

Sloane will also serve as the showrunner for the series. Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer of New Regency and  Jenny Robins from Wells Street Films will also executive produce. Glover and Sloane are both have overall deals with Amazon.

Last year, Glover signed an 8-figure deal with Amazon, who announced a channel of sorts that will be curated to display all of Glover’s creative endeavors. Stephen Glover, Donald’s brother, who writes and produces on Atlanta alongside his brother, has also signed an overall deal with Amazon.
