During a recent performance, Drake shared his unfiltered thoughts about Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino)’s 2018 hit “This Is America,” and it wasn’t exactly favorable.

On Wednesday, the Canadian rapper kicked off the It’s All a Blur Tour that he’s co-headling with 21 Savage following their joint album Her Loss. The first stop of the tour happened in Chicago. During a solo moment on stage, the “Search & Rescue” rapper performed his 2011 hit “Headlines.” During the performance, a fan captured a video of Drake’s set that included a message on stage and posted it on TikTok with the words, “Drake disses Childish Gambino’s This Is America.”

Red words that scrolled across a screen behind Drake read, “The overrated and over-awarded hit song ‘This Is America’ was originally a Drake diss record.”

The statement wasn’t completely false because Donald Glover, who goes by Childish Gambino for his music career, admitted he originally planned to make a diss record about the former Degrassi actor in an interview with GQ in April when he was asked about the hit song “This Is America,” which won song of the year, record of the year, best music video and best rap/sung performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

“I had the idea three years before. I told [director] Hiro [Murai] the idea, and he’s like, ‘I really want to do that.’… The idea for the song started as a joke. To be completely honest, ‘This is America’ — that was all we had was that line. It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it. But then I was like, this s**t sounds kind of hard though. So I was like, let me play with it,” the Atlanta star told GQ.

According to Billboard, the two artists grew a friendship throughout the years, following Glover’s mention in an interview that his alter ego Childish Gambino was better than Drake, Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q. So Drake’s latest antics are leaving fans uncertain if the “BackOutsideBoyz” artist is serious or just being petty in response to Glover sharing the origin behind “This Is America.”
