In case you haven’t been paying attention, Dwayne Johnson is a man on a mission, building a media empire that reaches into almost every aspect of industry – film, TV, web, acting, producing, hosting, and lots of noteworthy deal-making, cementing an already fairly solid brand. He is “The Rock” after all.

Johnson via his Seven Bucks Productions shingle has teamed up with Universal, as well as Captivate Entertainment, and Mythology to bring the bestselling novels of Robert Ludlum (best known for the Jason Bourne series) to the big screen, with, of course, Dwayne Johnson starring.

The first will be Ludlum’s “The Janson Directive” starring Johnson as Paul Janson―a legend in the notorious U.S. covert agency Consular Operations― who is called on to find a billionaire philanthropist who is kidnapped by a terrorist known as The Caliph.

Mythology’s James Vanderbilt will adapt the book from a story he co-authored with Akiva Goldsman.

Ludlum died in March 2001, but “The Janson Directive” (over 700 pages long) was published posthumously 7 years later, in 2008.

Vanderbilt will co-author two more Janson stories which will be adapted into screenplays, based on Ludlum titles.

Johnson and his Seven Bucks partner Dany Garcia also launched a new YouTube Channel earlier this year, Seven Bucks Digital Studios, expanding their media footprint. The multi-platform production company has partnered with Studio71, the digital entertainment company and multichannel network of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, on the venture.

Johnson is currently attached to at least 10 feature films that are at various stages of development/production, and are set to be released over the next 3 years. He also stars in HBO’s dramedy “Ballers,” which returns for a second season this summer.
