So there you have it folks. We can now put all the speculation to bed. As confirmed by the actor in a tweet earlier today (embedded above) Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson’s much-discussed upcoming DC Comics character movie adaption will be, not Shazam, but his arch-nemesis Black Adam.

Although maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise, since he told the Associated Press 2 weeks ago that he’s always been a fan of anti-heroes, and that one of his favorite DC Comics characters is Black Adam.

Those of you who are DC Comics enthusiasts, you’re invited to chime in with your thoughts.

But according to the DC Comics wiki, Black Adam is a supervillain, and, as noted, primary adversary of Shazam (originally called Captain Marvel). Black Adam, as originally depicted, was a corrupted, ancient Egyptian predecessor of Captain Marvel, who fought his way to modern times to challenge the hero and his Marvel Family associates. Since the turn of the 21st century, however, Black Adam has been re-defined by DC Comics as a corrupted antihero attempting to "clear his name."

His supervillain abilities include super strength, super speed, super stamina, super senses, super intellect, healing factor, invulnerability, flight, and fearlessness. Essentially, he’s an *evil* version of his nemesis, Shazam.

Appearing in Mexico City to promote "Hercules" a couple of weeks ago, Johnson promised that, whatever choice he makes, he will definitely not disappoint fans of the comic.

"I am putting my heart and soul and my bones into this role," he said.

There’d been rumors that whatever character Johnson decided to play would appear in "Superman vs Batman: Dawn of Justice," which is scheduled to be released in 2016. But the actor, not surprisingly, had nothing to say about that.

The next 6 years will see at least 23 comic book movie adaptations released between Disney/Marvel and WB/DC. Johnson will certainly be a part of that party.
