Eddie Murphy is joining Jonah Hill in Kenya Barris‘ next project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy will reteam with Barris on an upcoming untitled comedy film Barris will direct for Netflix. The film will also star Hill, who co-wrote the script with Barris. Barris will produce through his production company, Khalabo Ink Society, with Hill’s Strong Baby production company. Misher Films’ Kevin Misher is also on as producer.

There’s currently no word on what the plot entails, but The Hollywood Reporter does state that the film is described as being “an incisive examination of modern love and family dynamics and how clashing cultures, societal expectations and generational differences shape and affect relationships.” It’s also reported that Hill and Murphy’s characters “will find themselves on opposite sides of some of those divides.”

Barris and Murphy recently teamed up to create the sequel to Coming to America, Coming 2 America. The sequel brought back many of the original film’s core cast of characters, including Murphy and Arsenio Hall reprising their various characters in the film.

As Shadow And Act reported in June, Barris tapped Hill to star in the film, which was described by The Hollywood Reporter as being “a modern look at the themes tackled in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?, the 1967 classic that saw a white couple’s daughter surprise her parents with a Black fiancé.”

As fans are well aware, this isn’t the first time Barris has broached the subject of interracial marriage; his black-ish spinoff, mixed-ish, focused on the eclectic childhood of black-ish character Bow, who was raised in an interracial household. His upcoming project with Disney+, a Cheaper By The Dozen reboot, was announced in 2020 and will star Gabrielle Union and is rumored to focus on an interracial family.
