Eddie Murphy's "A Thousand Words" UK Theatrical Release Canceled

I was surprised it was ever even released in the USA in the first place, after being in limbo for so long, and being pushed back repeatedly.

So far it's only been released in the USA, grossing just over $15 million in the 3 weeks since its release. No foreign returns yet (though it begins rolling out in other territories this week), and it looks like what would've likely been a key international market (the UK) for the film won't be getting it after all… at least, not in theaters.

It's been announced this morning that the scheduled UK June theatrical release date for Eddie Murphy’s poorly reviewed A Thousand Words (which co-stars Kerry Washington) has been nixed.

Paramount had set a June 8th release date, and has now cancelled the film's planned UK theatrical release thanks in part to its poor stateside reception; and I'm sure our readers in the UK are bummed about that, aren't ya? 🙂

The comedy that sat on the shelves for almost 4 years, is still scheduled to open in France (May 16) and Germany (June 28). Interesting though that it's been pulled from an another country in which English is the primary language, but is still scheduled to play in 2 countries in which English isn't the primary language. Maybe they're hoping that some of it will be lost in translation 🙂
