Emerging Composer Segun Akinola To Score The Historic Upcoming Season Of 'Doctor Who'

The upcoming, groundbreaking season of Doctor Who, the first season to feature a female Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), will be even more important thanks to the show bringing on its new composer, Segun Akinola.

"Doctor Who is woven into the fabric of British culture and recognized globally," he said to the BBC. "I am absolutely thrilled to be given the privilege of working on such a beloved series and to bring my musical voice to it.'

An alumnus of The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and part of 2017's BAFTA Breakthrough Brit program, Akinola is one of the new and exciting British composers. His work can be heard on Black and British: A Forgotten History--in fact, it was his work on that series that caught the eye of Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall.

"We're over the moon Segun's agreed to join us, to provide the score for the next phase of the Doctor Who adventure," said Chibnall. "From our very first conversations, it was obvious Segun was a passionate, collaborative and delightful human being as well as a fantastic and bold composer. We're looking forward to introducing the world to his exciting and emotional soundtracks for the Thirteenth Doctor."

The new season of Doctor Who will air this fall on BBC One.

Tosin Cole (Burning Sands), Bradley Walsh and Mandip Gill also star.
