Sunday night’s Emmy Awards included a lot of Black excellence, with Regina King, Zendaya, Watchmen writer Cord Jefferson, Uzo Aduba, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking home awards gold.

However, the awards telecast was also a reminder of how 2020 has been a year of loss. During the ceremony, Grammy Award-winning musician H.E.R paid tribute to the talent both behind the scenes and in front of the camera that we’ve lost.

During the In Memoriam segment, the acclaimed songstress performing a soaring rendition of the classic hit “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Among those honored Naya Rivera, Janet DuBois, Jas Waters, Diahann Carroll and many more. H.E.R.’s performance concluded with a black and white image of Chadwick Boseman, who passed away on Aug. 28 following complications due to colon cancer.
