The executive producers behind FOX’s Empire seem to have a mantra for this upcoming season: More Lyons, Less Guests. Will it ring true?

“When we start to focus too much on guest stars we lose who it is that the fans want to watch. They’re obsessed with the Lyons. They’re obsessed with family. They’re obsessed with the story of Lucious and Cookie and Jamal and Andre and Hakeem,” says Daniels.

If you think the show will be completely washed of guests, think again as Forest Whitaker will be a recurring star this season as Uncle Eddie, and Taye Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, Leslie Uggams and Demi Moore will also return as recurring guests.

The Empire/Star season premiere crossover event will take place on September 27 at 8 p.m. You can check out a preview of the Empire/Star team-up below:

It was also revealed that the show will tribute Prince in its fourth season.

Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will perform the music icon’s hit song, “Let’s Go Crazy.” This will be featured in the episode’s storyline for the birthday party of Hakeem’s daughter, Bella. “It’s completely Prince-themed. In a celebratory fashion, everybody, all of the cast, is going to be dressed in a Prince theme. Even my crew is going to, to kind of honor him,” said executive producer and director Sanaa Hamri.

Hamri, who was close to Prince, spoke openly about the episode and their plans. “Because I’m a very close friend of the estate, they were very kind to me in allowing us to use a lot of the things that we needed to. I know in a weird sense he trusts me with his work, he has been for many so I say, ‘Why not do that now and honor him in the best way on a music show?’ Prince always believed in owning your masters or your masters will own you. It’s about being free, it’s about doing the music that you want. The Empire family has always fought to be unique compared to the other people in the music industry. Our show also reveals the kind of dirty laundry of the music industry that Prince has spoke[n] about for year.”

She also revealed Prince was working on a TV show at the time of his death.
