ESPN’S ’30 FOR 30′ ALUM EZRA EDELMAN’S ‘O.J.: MADE IN AMERICA’ A SWEEPING WORK ON SEDUCTION OF SIMPSON’S CELEBRITY JUXTAPOSED AGAINST DEVASTATED BLACK L.A. COMMUNITY
ESPN Films

A film that’s on my 2017 list of potential Oscar nominees, ESPN Films announced today that it is bringing back to theaters the group’s most ambitious project to date, the staggering “O.J.: Made in America.” The lengthy, comprehensive documentary had its highly acclaimed world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, followed by screenings at the Tribeca Film Festival and Hot Docs.

It is perhaps the defining cultural tale of 20th-century America, one that centers around two of our country’s greatest fixations: race and celebrity. Directed by Peabody and Emmy winner Ezra Edelman, “O.J.: Made in America” explores these themes in tracing a personal journey, from how Orenthal James Simpson first became a football star, to why the country fell in love with him off the field, to his being accused of murdering his ex-wife, his subsequent acquittal and why he is sitting in jail 20 years later for another crime.

It opened in theaters in a very limited release, on May 20th, in New York and Los Angeles.

The theatrical version, screening with 2 intermissions, will return to play in select theaters around the country, likely so that it’s not forgotten by the Academy (and other organizations) this awards season. Below are the upcoming playdates:
