The third season of HBO’s Euphoria may take place a few years into the future.
While recently speaking with Vogue, the hit series’ costume designer, Heidi Bivens, teased what fans can likely expect from the upcoming sophomore season.
Bivens says discussions are taking place over 'Euphoria' jumping 5 years into the future for the third season.
“There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future, and that they’re not in high school anymore,” Bivens told Vogue. “Dorothy’s not in Kansas anymore. I mean, it might be a total trip. Who can say? But knowing Sam’s [Levinson] brain, it’s gonna be exciting, and he will challenge all of us, because he won’t want to repeat himself. It’ll be something new for the audience to discover.”
Rather than high school struggles, Season 3 could focus more on adult life for the 'Euphoria' cast.
“I’ll do everything I can to make the third season of the show successful. I’m really excited to read the scripts. There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future, and that they’re not in high school anymore,” Bivens told the publication.
Last year, Zendaya talked to Shadow and Act recently about what Rue went through this season, particularly Rue’s recent drug-fueled hallucination of being in church with a pastor (played by Euphoria music head Labrinth) and hugging her father.
“It’s interesting because we always had it written, but it wasn’t fully fleshed out and we didn’t have a particular song for it,” she said regarding the church hallucination scene. “I think we were originally going to sing a song that already existed. It’s funny because we were actually shooting that kind of later on in the season for episode four, and in between takes, Sam [Levinson, Euphoria‘s creator] or myself would go over to where Lab was, and we’d just go in there and just start working, coming up with stuff and writing together. And I love writing with Lab. I’ve been able to do it before and especially in the context of Euphoria. And just kind of understanding me where Rue is going and where she’s at.”
“It’s the idea of Rue being tired of being who she is and you can look at it from like a more melancholy and kind of deep sadness, but there’s also this idea of [an] ‘I don’t want to be who I am anymore’ feeling and this idea of rebirthing and becoming someone else or stepping into a new phase of your life, which I really have hope for Rue in that sense,” she added.
Euphoria‘s stars also include Storm Reid, Nika King, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Alexa Demie.
It is unclear when season 3 will return.
