If the success of the project's fundraising campaign wasn't enough, this piece of news definitely indicates that Dear White People should be coming to the big screen soon.

According to writer/director Justin Simien, veteran producer Stephanie Allain (Hustle & Flow, Something New, Black Snake Moan, We The Peeples) has come onto the project as Executive Producer.

Allain has two decades of experience as an advocate for visionary filmmakers, and is credited with helping to launch the careers of several filmmakers including Craig Brewer, John Singleton, Robert Rodriguez, and Darnell Martin, as a producer and as a studio executive.

To recap, Dear White People is an ensemble satire centered on a racial incident on a predominately white Ivy League college campus, told from the perspective of the black students that attend there.

Since Justin released the trailer for the film here on S&A back in June, it racked up over 700,000 views and thousands of comments online. The production team, which includes producers Lena Waithe, Angel Lopez and Ann Le, launched an Indiegogo campaign that reached its $25,000 goal within three days and went on to raise over $40,000 towards pre-production. DWP also won the hard-fought battle to become Project of the Day, Week, and Month here on Indiewire.

The success of the trailer has led to a host of new opportunities for the team, so expect to see a lot more from them in the future. We'll keep you posted as we hear more.
