Netflix has released the first trailer for Fatherhood starring Kevin Hart. The film was originally set to be released theatrically via Columbia Pictures, but after its release date kept changing due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Netflix acquired the film from Sony Pictures Releasing.

Based on the book Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss & Love by Matthew Logelin, the film also stars Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Frankie R. Faison, Anthony Carrigan, Paul Reiser, Melody Hurd and Deborah Ayorinde.

Here’s the logline: In this heartwarming, funny and emotional true story, Kevin Hart stars as a widower taking on one of the toughest jobs in the world: fatherhood.

Though the film seemingly has a lot of light moments, this is Hart’s first major foray in to more dramatic material. This trajectory will continue with Netflix’s True Story, the limited drama series he’s set to star in with Wesley Snipes at Netflix.

The film is a part of Netflix’s summer lineup with a release date of June 18 for Father’s Day weekend. The film was directed by Paul Weitz and written by Weitz and Dana Stevens.

Back in January, it was announced that Hart’s HartBeat Productions has signed a major, long-term deal film deal Netflix.

“I am excited to act in and produce cutting-edge films with Netflix,” he said at the time. “I am extremely grateful to Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber, we share the same creative vision and always put the audience first. This business is about growth and my HartBeat team continues to exceed my expectations with their ability to develop stories and relationships.”
