First look at Richard Ayoade in “The Crystal Maze” (Channel 4)

Legendary British adventure gameshow “The Crystal Maze” is back on Channel 4 (UK) in 2017. In this first picture unveiled today, new host Richard Ayoade takes center stage in front of the all-new Crystal Dome. Viewers can look forward to a new series of the show arriving on Channel 4 in June.

The original “Crystal Maze” ran from 1990 to 1995. In November 2016 it was revealed by a spokesperson for Channel 4, that the broadcaster planned to revive the show for a full series, to air in 2017. And on January 13. 2017, it was confirmed that former “IT Crowd” star Richard Ayoade would host the series.

The new series will see teams of five contestants navigate the Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Future zones of the maze. They will face a range of skill, mystery, physical and mental challenges to win crystals that equate to time in the final test – the legendary Crystal Dome. A batch of celebrity specials in aid of “Stand Up to Cancer” will also air later this year.

The series is filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, where a purpose built maze spanning over 30,000 square feet has been created by the original “Crystal Maze” designer, James Dillon (“The Mighty Boosh,” “The Royle Family”).

“The Crystal Maze” will be executive produced by Peter Usher and Neale Simpson for Fizz and has been commissioned by Tom Beck, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment, and Head of Entertainment, Ed Havard. The Crystal Maze is a Banijay Group Format.

“The Crystal Maze” arrives on Channel 4 in June.
