Damon WayansWhat’s old is new again; We already know about CBS’s TV series adaptation of the "Rush Hour" buddy-cop franchise, which is coming later this spring. Now Fox has announced its order of a TV pilot based on the "Lethal Weapon" movie franchise, and has cast Damon Wayans, Sr. in the lead role of Roger Murtaugh, which was originated by Danny Glover in the films.

Fox’s TV series version will center on Texas cop and former Navy SEAL, Martin Riggs, who moves to Los Angeles after losing his wife and baby. He is partnered with LAPD detective Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a heart attack, must avoid stress.

In the 1987 film from Warner Bros. Pictures, Mel Gibson played Riggs. It spawned three sequels. An actor has yet to be cast for that role in Fox’s TV pilot.

Lin Pictures and Good Session Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television, are producing the one-hour drama, with Exec producers Matt Miller, Dan Lin, Jennifer Gwartz and McG.

McG will direct.
