Damson Idris is known for his role Franklin Saint, a 19-year-old drug dealer and lead character in the FX crime drama Snowfall, created by the late John Singleton.

Among the main talking points surrounding Idris’ acclaimed performance is how well the British actor nailed down an American accent. In an interview on the talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, Idris revealed he learned his accent from his dialect coach, west coast rapper WC.

During his sit-down with Kimmel back in 2017, Idris also relayed a hilarious anecdote on being taken to Popeyes for the first time in South Central Los Angeles upon meeting the rapper.

“You can understand I was petrified all the time,” the actor joked, noting that WC showed up at his house and called him, saying that he had been tapped as his dialect coach.

When they went to Popeye’s he had no idea what they served because he had never been there before.
