Gabrielle Union, Freida Pinto Producing TV Adaptation Of 'Dressed In Dreams: A Black Girl's Love Letter To The Power Of Fashion'

Gabrielle Union and Freida Pinto are getting in the producer’s chair for a television adaptation of culture critic Tanisha C. Ford’s memoir, Dressed in Dreams: A Black Girl’s Love Letter to the Power of Fashion.

According to Variety, the series will be produced via Union’s I’ll Have Another production company and Pinto’s Freebird Films Entertainment. Holly Shakoor Fleischer for I’ll Have Another and Emily Verellen Stron for Freebird Films will oversee the project.

Dressed in Dreams uses fashion through the ’60s to the present to discuss her own life as a Black girl growing up in the Midwest.

Ford said of the announcement, “I am so excited to have my book in the hands of these incredibly talented women. Gabrielle and Frieda have been such champions of my work and I am so ready for the next step in this journey of the power of fashion.”

In a joint statement, Union and Pinto said that Ford’s memoir “brought up so much for each of us being women of color.”

“Fashion is such a huge part of one’s self-expression and to this day plays a major part of how we each operate in our daily lives,” they continued, adding that fashion “helped shape our lives and we think it can be the driving force that tells the story of what it means to grow up being a proud woman of color.”
