In 2018, it was announced that Angela Burt-Murray’s best-selling novel Games People Play was adapted into a television series for BET. Starring Lauren London, Karen Obilom, Sarunas J. Jackson, Jackie Long, Karrueche Tran, Parker McKenna Posey, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Vanessa Simmons, Shaun Robinson, Kevin Jackson, Barry Brewer and Monti Washington, Games People Play premiered in 2019.

For those unfamiliar, Games People Play follows Vanessa (London), “a desperate basketball wife trying to protect her family, a tenacious journalist struggling to rebuild a tarnished career, and a scandalous groupie looking to become a  star, who all find it is murder trying to stay on top.” Games People Play is executive produced by Tracey Edmonds of Edmonds Entertainment, Angela Burt-Murray and Vanessa Middleton.

In an interview when the series first premiered, Obilom talked about the show to Shadow and Act. “This show is one-of-a-kind,” she said. I haven’t seen anything like this. It’s a soap opera and a thriller and a comedy. It’s just very dynamic. You think it’s a stereotypical show with stereotypical characters but you learn that it’s about breaking stereotypes and showing that these people are human too. It shows a different side of Black people who are in the spotlight, who have money and who have influence, and you don’t see a lot of shows like that period.”

Soon after its premiere, Games People Play was renewed for a second season on BET. The second season of BET is slated to premiere later this year.  The second season of Games People Play introduces a bevy of new cast members, including include Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey, Brandi Denise, Nazanin Mandi, Ro Parrish, Hitman Holla, Leon and Calvin Seabrooks.
