Emmy-nominated actress Sydney Mikayla has announced that she is exiting her role of Trina Robinson on the ABC show General Hospital.
“Sydney asked to leave in order to focus on college. We love her and are sad to see her go, but of course support her decision and wish her the best,” GH executive producer Frank Valentini said to Soap Opera Digest.
The actress, who earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer In A Drama Series in 2021, stepped into the role in 2019 as a member of General Hospital’s teen ensemble.
She was soon revealed to be the daughter of General Hospital legacy character Marcus Taggert (Real Andrews) and Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr). Previously, Mikayla moved to recurring status in October 2021 to devote more time to her collegiate studies.
“I have loved working on General Hospital, but I feel like this is the right time to dive in and enjoy my college experience to the fullest. The cast has become family and bringing the character of Trina to life has been one of the best experiences of my career thus far,” Mikayla said in a statement last year regarding her recurring status, as reported by Daytime Confidential. “ Thank you to Frank and the entire team for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. I will miss working with everyone every day, but I am excited to see what is to come for the show.”
Stepping into the role of Trina Robinson will be newcomer Tabyana Ali.
Ali’s prior credits include The New Girl, Shimmer and Shine, and the upcoming film Empire Waist.
