Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Passed On A Role In LeBron James' Upcoming 'Space Jam 2' Film

With Space Jam 2 set to begin production this summer, one NBA star you can count on not making an appearance is Giannis Antetokounmpo. In an interview with Malika Andrews for ESPN, the NBA star revealed that he passed on an opportunity to appear in the sequel to the 1996 cult classic.

"I don't like being Hollywood," Antetokounmpo said. "I don't like all this extra drama. I am just going to try to be me."

In February, LeBron James revealed that Space Jam 2 will begin production during the summer. The NBA legend is set to star in the movie, as well as executive produce alongside Ryan Coogler.

The original film starred fellow NBA legend Michael Jordan who teams up with a pack of Looney Tunes to win a basketball match against a group of aliens.

Space Jam 2 will be directed by Terence Nance, who garnered rave reviews for his directorial debut of An Oversimplification of Her Beauty. Nance is also the creator of the HBO show Random Acts Of Flyness. The film is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
