Gina Prince-Bythewood has signed on to direct Skydance’s film adaptation of the fantasy comic book The Old Guard, based on the comic book by written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernández

This is another comic book adaptation on Prince-Bythewood’s resume. Freeform and Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, for which she directed the pilot, has been picked up for a second season. Also, Bythewood is still attached to Sony’s Silver and and Black, even though that film is currently stuck in development.

According to Variety, The Old Guard‘s story will follow “a covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.”

The film’s script will be written by Rucka and is said to be a female-led story. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing for Skydance. The film has a scheduled release date of 2019.
