Paramount Network has picked up 10 half-hour episodes of a comedy series reboot of First Wives Club, from Paramount Television. Tracy Oliver co-write of the hit film, Girls Trip will write and executive produce this reimagining.

The half-hour series is based on the popular 1996 film from Paramount Pictures, which featured Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn.

The reboot was picked up by TV Land last year with a different writer, but they passed on it, and then it was moved to its Viacom sister, Paramount Network, where it has been redeveloped and Oliver was tapped to lead.

Back when the project was first announced in October, Oliver stated she would be adapting it with a diverse cast. According to THR sources, the reboot is looking to cast non-white leads as the three women, with one source even suggesting the entire cast may be non-white.

This would be Paramount Network’s first collaboration with its production company, Paramount Television.

Oliver co-wrote Girls Trip with Kenya Barris, becoming the first black woman to write a movie that $100 million-plus domestically-grossing movie.

She’s also written on Survivor’s Remorse and is adapting Nicola Yoon’s novel The Sun is Also a Star, which has Yara Shahidi attached to star.

“Tracy Oliver is a brilliant writer and the perfect visionary to bring this unforgettable story from the big screen to the small screen in a fresh and contemporary way,” said Keith Cox, President, Development and Production, Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT.

Girls Trip was one of the funniest comedies in recent memory and we know Tracy will breathe new life, and some serious laughs, into these beloved ‘First Wives Club’ characters,” said Amy Powell, President of Paramount TV.

The series, like the film, will be based in New York City. It will follow a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart, and who find strength in their sisterhood, and of course, a little revenge.

Production will begin in New York City this summer and the series will debut on Paramount Network in 2019.

A cast announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
